Construction will start again on the 23 new homes at Glanffrwd, Ebbw Vale.

On Monday, 6th February 2023, Willis Construction officially starts work on the Glanffrwd development. The development will provide much-needed new energy efficient homes in Ebbw Vale.

When our previous developer, WRW, went out of business and the building work stopped, it was intensely frustrating for both us and the residents, whom we would like to thank for their patience. Given the economic climate, it has been tough to appoint a new contractor to complete the project.

Thankfully Willis Construction was happy to step in and help us complete this project.  Willis is a highly experienced and respected Welsh-based contractor with over thirty years of experience building new homes. Contracts such as Glanffrwd, where another contractor has started but has yet to complete construction, are known as completion contracts. This type of contract has many additional challenges. This is in an area where Willis is highly respected and has a proven track record.

To encourage contractors to tender for the works and not be put off by the risks of taking on somebody else’s work, the decision was made to demolish the above-ground structures and rebuild. As we have insolvency insurance in place, this will cover the cost of the demolition.

This allowed us to change the construction method to a timber frame and use other modern building methods that will help speed up the construction and reduce the project’s carbon footprint.

The development will be completed by the Autumn of 2024. We look forward to welcoming the first tenants to these new affordable homes once the work is finished.
