Dragons RFC and Tai Calon Community Housing Join Forces to Conquer the Esports Realm!

Dragons RFC, Gwent’s only professional Rugby and Tai Calon Community Housing, the largest provider of homes in Blaenau Gwent, are thrilled to announce their Official Partnership as they set their sights on conquering the exciting new world of Esports! 

 The collaboration combines the recently established Dragons RFC Esports Organisation, powered by the reputable US company Rival, and Tai Calon’s Well Being Team. This dynamic alliance will see Tai Calon taking on the prestigious role of the “Official Dragons RFC Esports Community Partner.” 

Dan Nicholls, Dragons RFC Commercial Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for this groundbreaking initiative: “As a business, we have been diligently working behind the scenes for 18 months to establish ourselves in the Esports arena. The industry’s rapid growth, not only from a commercial perspective but also in terms of education, community, and inclusion, is evident. Esports is accessible to everyone and interestingly shares many similarities with professional rugby.  

We are immensely grateful to work with the Well Being Team from Tai Calon, as their support has allowed us to forge ahead with the project while actively engaging with various schools throughout Blaenau Gwent.” 

Nicholls added, “This is just another significant stride in our Esports journey, complemented by the invaluable support from our newly appointed Esports Officer – Morgan Foote. We intend to lead the way and proudly represent Welsh Rugby in the Esports arena while wholeheartedly welcoming any inquiries or interest from other organisations looking to be part of this thrilling new landscape.” 

Phil Meek, Wellbeing Team Manager at Tai Calon, said, “As an Official Dragons RFC Esports Community Partner, we aim establish an inter-school Esports league within Blaenau Gwent. Esports has garnered global popularity and serves as a tool to engage students, promote teamwork, and foster critical thinking skills. It is truly inclusive and accessible for all. We are honoured to be part of this innovative project and eagerly anticipate the development and success of our partnership.” 

Phil added, “Having collaborated with the Dragons RFC Community Team pre-pandemic we are very excited to expand our partnership by delivering their high-calibre Dragons Gateway Project to Primary Schools in Blaenau Gwent. We are very much looking forward to working with a team that shares our values and aspirations in improving the physical and mental wellbeing of young people in Blaenau Gwent.
